Yearly Home Maintenance Checklist

❄️ Winter (December – February)

Focus: Freeze prevention, indoor maintenance, and preparing for cold weather.

  • Test carbon monoxide and smoke detectors (Quarterly — do in January)

  • Check for ice dams and icicles

  • Inspect attic for proper insulation and signs of condensation or leaks

  • Change furnace filters (December & February)

  • Inspect appliance hoses for cracks and leaks

  • Run water & flush toilets in unused spaces (prevent pipe freezing)

  • Check water softener salt levels

  • Clean range hood fan filter

  • Clean garbage disposal

  • Vacuum refrigerator coils (January)

  • Inspect caulking around tubs, showers, and windows (February)

  • Test GFCI outlets (February or as part of spring prep)

  • Review emergency preparedness supplies and family plan (February)

🌷 Spring (March – May)

Focus: Moisture control, exterior inspection, preparing yard & systems for summer.

  • Change furnace filters (March)

  • Test carbon monoxide and smoke detectors (Quarterly — do in April)

  • Inspect roof for damage after winter

  • Check exterior drainage and foundation for cracks

  • Clean gutters and downspouts

  • Flush hot water heater to remove sediment (March or April)

  • Schedule A/C service (March or April)

  • Clear out window wells and foundation drains

  • Power wash siding, windows, and outdoor surfaces

  • Trim trees, shrubs, and bushes for healthy growth

  • Fertilize and aerate lawn

  • Clean window screens and reinstall them

  • Clean garage and organize seasonal tools

  • Inspect irrigation/sprinkler systems

🍂 Fall (September – November)
